Friends Looking at an EmailEmail marketing is not dead. It’s a revenue explosion. Don’t miss it.“We don’t like to spam people,” is one of the top objections we hear from new clients. Ironically, that’s a psychological barrier that will hurt your customersand your business.Communicating with customers that are craving information, guidance, and value is NOT spam!

Consumers continue to overwhelmingly tell us that email is the preferred mode of commercial communication. Take a look at some of the research:

  • US adult Internet users subscribe to an average of almost three daily or weekly shopping emails or newsletters. –Yahoo! Mail and Ipsos OTX MediaCT, “Consumer Pulse” (2011)
  • Email is the preferred method of commercial communication by 74% of all online adults. –Merkle “View From the Digital Inbox 2011″ (2011)
  • 94% of daily email users subscribed to marketing messages –ExactTarget “Subscribers, Fans, and Followers: The Social Profile” (2010)
  • 67% of US Internet users say the motivation behind giving their email address to a company is to receive discounts and promotions. –ExactTarget “Email X-Factor Study” (2010)
  • 57% of Internet users worldwide said they are more apt to buy a product in a store after getting a marketing email. –e-Dialog, “Global Perspectives: a Study of Consumer Attitudes to Digital Marketing” (2010)

Despite the statistically overwhelming message that customers want offers, deals, and promotions when they give us their emails, we consider these types of emails too spammy.

In fact, most companies’ email strategies employ tactics and strategies that customers specifically tell us they don’t want. Here is the statistically supported irony:

  • Only 14% of US internet users say the motivation behind giving their email address to a company is to interact with the brand. –ExactTarget “Email X-Factor Study” (2010)
  • In the United States, only 4% of internet users said marketing emails made them decide not to buy a product. –e-Dialog, “Global Perspectives: a Study of Consumer Attitudes to Digital Marketing” (2010)
